Two of the worst reality TV shows of all time aired earlier this year, and such shows were, I Wanna Marry “Harry” and Famous in 12. I Wanna Marry “Harry” was a terrible concept, and Famous in 12 was a great concept that was executed terribly.

Since I Wanna Marry “Harry” was a complete disaster, I won’t comment on such. However, since Famous in 12 was a brilliant idea that was axed due to mishandling; I will give my opinions as to why such a show was a complete failure.

First and foremost, Harvey Levin has a dry sense of humor. I know you may be wondering how his terrible sense of humor has anything to do with the demise of such a show, but you must take into consideration that he tried to create a reality show based on the “talents” of an untalented family. Therefore, such a decision to pick such a family was based on Harvey’s view that what he finds to be amusing would also be amusing to viewers.

I give Harvey a lot of credit for creating TMZ, which is highly entertaining. However, I would think that the failure of his jokes to amuse any of his employees with any meaningful persistency, should’ve warned him of trying to create a reality show based on what he finds funny.

The following facts support my opinion of misguided humor, or on the other hand, basic old incompetency:

(1) – Maariyah’s talent was singing, yet she was a terrible singer; so why would Harvey send her to perform in front of a music producer knowing she couldn’t sing? I can only believe that he did such in an attempt at making such entertaining / amusing.

The producer agreed to work with her mainly because of the following that she had acquired from being on the show. Who in their right mind wouldn’t take a no risk chance (no contract was signed).

(2) –Jameelah’s  talent was modeling, even though she lacked modeling experience, and was at an age in which most models are at the end of their careers. So why would Harvey sent her to a modeling agency? I can only believe such was also a misguided attempt to bring about entertainment and amusement.

(3) –Taliah’s talent was supposed to be dancing, even though she never had any meaningful dance experience. So why would Harvey sent her to audition for such a field? I don’t need to reiterate my viewpoint on such a matter.

(4) – Mike’s talent was supposed to be deejaying. However, he never even booked any relevant the same jobs, so why would Harvey send him to deejay at a gay club wearing a diaper? At least this one is blatantly obvious.

(5) – Angie’s talent was supposed to be writing erotica. How such would’ve been relevant in the show is beyond my comprehension. I can only remember her reading an excerpt to her daughters, and asking the youngest (the virgin) to edit such, (awkward, not amusing).

Since she lacked any “talent” that could be meaningfully utilized on broadcast television, she was delegated into the position of her daughter’s “momanger.”

If your employees don’t find your jokes to be funny, your sense a humor will not find a broad audience. Most people laugh at their boss’s jokes due to a sense of obligation, not because of natural conscience reflects. Therefore, if Harvey’s jokes normally go by unappreciated by his employees; a show based on such a dry sense of humor will always translate into a disaster.

At the end of the day it was dumb to try to push an untalented family into stardom by throwing him on television and sending them on random missions to seek out potential celebrity meet and greets.

Famous in 12 would’ve been a runaway success had Harvey selected 12 potentially entertaining individuals, allowed them to seek out fame in their own unique ways, and allowed viewers to vote for their favorites to stay on week after week until one remained at the end of 12 weeks.

The winner could have won money and or gifts. The gifts, (a car, etc.) could’ve been a great way to incorporate sponsored ads into the show.

Harvey could’ve also worked with the producers of Big Brother, or another reality show to have the winner to potentially take part on Big Brother or another reality show.

In short, Harvey Levin tarnished a perfectly good reality show concept. However, such a concept could be tweaked, renamed, and given new life.
