Some reality and game show are interesting when they premiere, and stay interesting for a year or so. But several years of the same plot, et cetera… and the show usually starts to become uninteresting.

After a while several shows stayed the same for so long that I couldn’t bear watching them any longer. One of such shows was Survivor. When it first débuted, I loved watching it… several years later I pretty much hated it.

If Survivor would’ve changed enough to keep my interest level up I would’ve stayed tuned in. Yet, it has stayed so similar to when it first aired that I lost interest completely.

Even a drastic change would’ve kept me in tuned. For example, had Survivor 1.0 re-debuted as Survivor 2.0, and completely changed the environment in which the show was filmed, like in an Inner City atmosphere… I would have watched a couple more seasons.

Since I’m so tired of seeing the same exact type of show over and over for years on end, I’m going to pick out a show from time to time, and “critique” such a show. And while doing such I will make some suggestions about what would/ could make such a show more interesting.

Today I’ll start by focusing on the game show Family Feud. Especially since the show got so repetitive/ boring years ago, that not only did I stop watching the show… I forgot who the past host was.

I’m back watching the show again, primarily because the new host (Steve Harvey) is so entertaining that I could care less about how much such a show hasn’t changed.

What simultaneously entertains and irritates me the most about such a show, are those rare… or common contestants that seem to be overflowing with stupid and/or irrational answers. Therefore, I would add features to the Family Feud Game which would focus on dumb answers and dumb contestants.

The following is a list of features that automatically come to mind, in which I would love to see implemented by Family Feud.

(1) THE DROP OFF

Beneath each and every area in which contestants stand, would be a hole with a drop door located right above such a door.

At any time during the game play, one of the contestants on each team would be allowed to be dropped out of the game by way of majority vote, such a majority vote could either be decided by the contestants own family, or the shows audience members.

(2) THE SUBSTITUTION

At any time during the game play, one of the contestants on each team could be substituted for an audience member by majority vote…

The motivation for the audience member replacement to produce good answers would be the award they would receive, in the form of a mystery prize, if their team beats the opposing team and make it to the final round. (Ad placement revenue)

(3) THE FINAL ROUND DROP OFF

At any time of the final round in which the contestants are playing for the $20,000, by answering the five survey questions, the player’s family would be able to drop the player for putting forth a dumb answer, and stop the clock count down.

After such, the remaining family members would be able to decide which one of them would replace the one who was dropped off.

Once the replacement takes over where their family member left off, the clock count down would resume, and the contestants would answer the remaining questions.

The winning team would return the next day with all of the original members intact to start off as a team.

If a family didn’t win the $20,000 the previous day, I would allow them to choose a double pay option… in other words, if they chose such an option and won again the next day the winnings from the previous day would be doubled. However, if they lose the next game they, the previous day’s winnings would be waived.

Well, I just believe game shows and reality shows would last longer on average, and add more to their bottom line if they chose to implement changes on a more constant basis.
